CONTEMPLATING A TRUE CUSTOM CINEMA?

 Hello Cinema fans!!!

For those considering a custom cinema,there are two constants...

1. You love Movies..

2. The thrill of the performance and feel of a great commercial cinema have never left you..

 

Of course,with point 2. this is what ideally ,you want to recreate..that unique experience..that sense of wonder when you were a child..the huge awesome image..the thunderous sound....

You want that "Rolls Royce" movie experience..you dont want a Ford..you dont want large screen entertainment..you want a TRUE commercial quality Cinema experience-just in your home..

You certainly dont want someone selling you a Ford BUT telling you its a Rolls Royce..and in THIS industry..thats extremely common..anyone selling tvs will try and tell you that the large screen and projector they are selling you equals a TRUE cinema..

It does not..

To have a REAL cinema experience there are certain givens that MUST be observed..

 The 12 points that MUST be adhered to for a residential cinema to be classed as equal to, and surpassing, a top commercial cinema:

1) Build out the rear wall to house the projector and equipment

2) Custom made screen, built onsite to perfectly fit the room size and projector throw distance

3) Full floor cinema carpet, including on the stage

4) A fibre optic star ceiling 

5) Decouple the room from the concrete walls using, OSB, rockwool and rubber sheeting

6) Acoustically treat the interior of the room, using Creative Coverings, to create a "level playing field", this stops harsh echoes and reflections

7) Acoustically treat the ceiling with the same Creative Coverings as the wall

8) Video provided by 4K Sony Pro laser projector, the baby brother to Sony´s D-Cinema range

9)  Fibre optic signal path, from source movie server, through the processor to the projector

10)  Audio system designed to enhance Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro 3D immersive sound formats, amplification and speakers by Aurea, the residential brand of LW speakers

11)  The cinema has been designed and setup to the exacting standards laid out by SMPTE, Cedia, THX & ISF and now..IMAX,,,,,

12)  Cinema is accredited by, and carries the signed certificate of authentication, from Luis Wassmann and Sony Pro

If your room doesn't adhere to ALL of the above points then it isn't a true cinema, it is large screen entertainment.

 

 

Without the observation of the above criteria..you are NOT buying a Rolls Royce..you WILL be buying a Ford.

There are certain things you can check..for example..

1. Does the equipment suggested by the company have ANY true cinema merit or is it over priced hi fi gear?

2. Has acoustic preperation been included,requisite cinema diagrams,speaker positioning etc..?

3. The person recommending the cinema company to you..do they have any cinema expertise or are they recommending the company that "looks after" them the best?

4. You MUST have a demonstration to validate your purchase otherwise someone could be suggesting an overpriced lemon..

MOST IMPORTANTLY...NEVER..EVER..PUT AUDIO VIDEO COMPANIES INTO A QUOTE PROCESS-IT IS ABSOLUTELY MEANINGLESS UNLESS ALL SUGGEST THE SAME ITEMS..HAVE THE SAME FACILITIES AND THE SAME LEVEL OF EXPERTISE ETC...

The whole purpose of a showroom is for you to experience the system..go to many showrooms..different companies..see what YOU love..do not take the word of some parasite on a back hander..they are for them..not for you..

Its VERY simple..make your purchase based on what YOU love..what experience takes you closest to that sense of awe you experienced when you were young..

Thats what you deserve..accuracy to the medium you love....

THE ART OF CINEMA

THE most important thing in creating a top flight Cinema is acoustic preperation.

To hear the sound as the director intended means that one must create an acoustic integrity within the room to near studio standards.

The room must be a neutral acoustic zone,devoid of any sound reflections or echo.

With a Dolby Atmos soundtrack,sounds are placed in precise positions at the mixing stage

Reflected sound creates an indistinct sound field whereby placement of sounds is inaccurate which can ruin the Dolby Atmos or DTS X experience. .

Without the requisite acoustic preperation,you cannot have a REAL Cinema..so this is mandatory..and of course,each room is unique..

Once the room is prepared,then stage 2 begins..the integration of synergistic equipment with field of view techniques utilised,ISF and THX ideology observed and careful setup.

THE HOME CINEMA RECIPE FOR AUDIO VISUAL NIRVANA..

For many years the term "Home Cinema" has been used to cover a HUGE range of systems from a humble TV and soundbar to a full Dolby Atmos Custom Cinema.

This of course is pure marketing hype and of course absolute nonsense..i mean have you ever seen a TV and a soundbar in a commercial cinema?..Might you ask for your money back if you had?

The truth is there are hundreds of different systems from 5k to 500k that will deliver an audio visual experience.

Part of our remit at Projectiondreams for our customers is finding "the punishment that fits the crime" for our clients for their budget.

There are essentially three main categories...TV based systems..Cine Lounges..and Custom Cinemas.

A tv based system will encompass a large screen TV (55" and above) and a soundbar..for an existing  lounge this can be a good solution.

A Cine Lounge may encompass a Dolby Atmos speaker system (standalone or discrete-in ceilings ..hidden speakers etc..).85" tv..custom sofa etc...This is a great option whereby you do not have a dedicated cinema room but want a great looking and sounding system with minimal disruption from a building perspective.

THE FINEST CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE IN THE WORLD'S BEST VENUE - YOUR HOME!!! As we move further into the digital age, convenience has overtaken quality as the driver for much of today's technology. Just because it is possible to stream a feature film onto an iPad, it is worth asking the question: "is this really how I want to watch it?" THE GREATEST TIME FOR HOME CINEMA FANS!

For the first time in 60 years of Motion pictures we are poised to not only equal the quality of the local multiplex at home but exceed it .



It is estimated that 35mm film has a digital resolution equivalent to 4K:

But in the Cinema this was the theoretical maximum and could be affected once projected by a factor of 10-15%,
